OpenID

May 13th, 2009 by alex

Looks like the user centric identity management is maturing quite nicely. It is now getting good traction in the real world. I’ve chipped in by making my blog both a consumer and a producer of OpenID . Here is what it means in plain English:

  • If you have an account at any of the OpenID enabled sites, you can post your comments on this blog and even login by using only your identity URL. No need to have an account, to use a username/password or to specify your name/email on the comment form.
  • If you have an account on my blog, you can go to any OpenID enabled site and use your identity URL (like www.ivkin.net/author/alex) without having to create an account on the site you are going to.

Why do it? No more account registrations, no more passwords for accounts at various sites, no more hassle with account maintenance. Join the [r]evolution!

Good idea! I’ve tried to log in to your blog but got the following error:
“Your have entered a valid OpenID, but this site is not currently accepting new accounts.”

This is correct. I have self registration disabled. I created a user account for you manually, it should be automatically associated with your OpenID URL when you login. However, you can post comments with OpenID without having an account or logging in.

  • Just testing my new OpenID…
